STROOPIE-fied
I, unfortunately, didn't get to truly taste much of authentic Dutch cuisine while in Holland, MICHIGAN but I did come across some amazing Dutch pastry snacks. My favorite definitely had to be the Stroopies.
A Stroopwafel is basically two thin waffles glued together by a mixture of Dutch syrup, butter, brown sugar, and some cinnamon. I've always been a pancake person, but this is just TOOOO GOOD. The actual waffles are made with a stiff batter which gives them a more crispy texture than traditional "American" waffles and together with the gooey syrupy center is just.......*mouth waters*.
"The history of the Stroopwafel goes back until 1784. A baker from Gouda baked a waffle of old crumbs and spices and filled this waffle with syrup. The Stroopwafel was born. In fact the Stroopwafel was a rest product. And therefor a popular pastry among the poor. " -StroopwafelShop.com
The packaged snack version we inhaled
purchased was super delicious. Apparently you can get them in some
Starbucks (horribly overpriced of course. No thanks!) I can only
imagine how good they taste from scratch......hmmmm.
Also I recently got nominated for an award by a fellow foodie blogger. You can find her at Food, Fork, & Good. I remember stopping by her blog and seeing her Grilled Pepper Potato Slices and had to follow. Her blog is packed with gorgeous pictures and great recipe ideas. You'll love it! Thanks Emma!
- Thank the person who nominated you and link them back. (check)
- Share a little bit about why you started blogging.
I initially started blogging for myself and maybe family and friends. I posted random personal blogs. I followed tons of fashion and beauty blogs and was inspired to share my own passion the way they did, which is food. I remember getting my first comment and getting really excited. It encouraged me to continue.
- Copy and paste the award onto your blog. (check)
- Nominate up to 10 other bloggers you think are addictive enough to deserve the award.
I decided to go with lucky number 7 blogs this time around :)
Feast On!
I love those, I have shamefully bought the terribly overpriced ones in starbucks, I like to warm them ove the top of my hot chocolate. These looks nice though, ahhh I'm totally drooling right now!
ReplyDeleteHaha it's no shame. I'm just cheap :D I never thought to eat them warmed up! I'll definitely be trying that.
DeleteThanks for the award, I'm so happy to receive it! I'm going to have my 2nd year blogiversary soon and this is such a good encouragement! xox
ReplyDeleteI first tried this Dutch waffle at the grower's market and the lady asked me to serve it like what Emma had said. My son kept asking to buy them when I found that it sold at Woolworths, We got a bit addicted to anything made with golden syrup.
