Homemade Potstickers!!

Print Friendly and PDFPrint Friendly
Recently I just had a sudden craving for some wontons. You'd think since I'm Asian, I wouldn't have cravings for such Asiany delights because I'd be eating them often, but believe it or not in this household we don't. Every night is something different. We try to all be together during dinner, but that isn't always the case here, so we all make our own meals whether it's cereal/breakfast food for some...or for others a protein shake or something super light. We usually only eat altogether every other weekend, so in between then, I like to experiment.....but anyways, that's besides the point hehe.

If I'm not eating out, I normally just eat the wontons that you can get frozen from Costco or something (don't judge me! hehe), but I figured, why not just try to make it myself...since ya know, I have all this time to myself now!! :( ;) It's been a while since I posted anything on this blog, so I took advantage!

My first time making these from scratch and they came out great!!! I don't think I could ever buy the pre-packaged ones again hehe. I cooked mine potsticker style in a pan instead of fully steaming them, so the outside is slightly crunchy and I made a sweet, salty, spicy, tart dipping sauce to go with it!

If you're interested in the recipe

I made the wonton wrappers from scratch....so easy :)
- 1 C all-purpose flour
- 1/2 C water (eyeball it)
- pinch of salt
- smaller pinch sugar

Whisk together flour, salt, and sugar. Slowly poor in the water. You'll need enough water to create a dough you can roll flat like wonton wrappers. My measurement of water may be too much or too little, so just eyeball it. Knead into a dough disc. Cover with a moist paper towel and let sit for at least 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the filling!!

Meat filling
- 1 C filipino sausage ("Langonisa")
- 1/8 tsp Sesame oil
- 2 green onions chopped
- 2 carrots diced

Fish filling
- 1 C cooked tilapia chopped (or whatever seafood you like, shrimp is yummy in this!)
- 1/8 tsp Sesame Oil
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp Sriracha (Thai hot sauce....so good!)
- 2 green onions chopped
- 2 carrots diced

Just combine all the filling ingredients and set aside.

While, fillings are marinating. Take wrapper dough and roll out (make sure to flour your work surface as well as your rolling pin) roll out until it's super thin, almost translucent. If you have to knead it more before rolling do so, you want a smooth dough to work with.

If you have a pasta making attachment to your electric mixer thing-a-ma-jiggy, then use that! It'll make your life a whole lot easier. I unfortunately am too broke to have one of those lol.

Using a cookie cutter or a small bowl like I did, cut out small 4 inch discs (or whatever size you like) and place a tsp or so of filling in the center of each disc. Fold together inwards from each side creating a pouch and crease together the center with water. Make sure it's properly adhered, so that the filling doesn't spill out while it's cooking.

in a medium skillet over medium-high heat, coat the bottom of pan with water and oil. Lightly brown each side of wontons and let steam for 10 minutes.

Serve with dipping sauce. I just use a little bit of soy sauce, sugar, Sriracha, green onions. Whatever you like!!

ENJOY!!
