Journey to a Healthier Me

Print Friendly and PDFPrint Friendly

I don't really believe in diets because I'm well aware that our bodies NEED carbs, protein, vitamins A-Z lol, as well as FAT to not only provide our bodies with the nutrients it needs to build our cells as well as repair them when necessary, but to give our bodies the energy and warmth needed to stay alive! Soooo, I've given up on anything that tells me that I have to "lower or completely eliminate my ___ intake" (w/ the exception of JUNK FOOD...I can deal with that hehe) or those diets that make me drink weird stuff, so that I can "cleanse" my system when really all it takes is some old fashion fiber and tons of water! :)

Plus I plan to be more physically active (Lord, help me find the motivation) so it's vital that I eat right  or else my muscles will start to tear itself apart and wreak all sorts of havoc. I learned this the hard way a few years back. While at face value, I may have seemed like the picture of health constantly watching what I ate and exercising 4-5 days a week for at least an hour everytime, I was pretty deceiving to say the least and what made it even worse was the fact that I honestly thought I was doing the right thing. I lost all this weight and felt good about THE WAY I LOOKED, but I was pretty much starving myself while simultaneously tearing apart my body. I look back at that time now and realize how incredibly far away my mindset was from where it should have been. I was hurting myself without even knowing it just for the sake of looking in the mirror and thinking "wow, I'm skinny..I look good!" when really I felt like a big pile of fat free POOP and my whole body hurt all the time :(

I've marked 2010 the year I will start my journey to a healthier me inside and out. I want to say "Healthiest Me", but that might be too much pressure haha. I'll take it one day at a time doing little things that take me a step farther towards my optimum health.  I don't want people thinking I've fallen into the "black hole of hollywood standard death" or that I'm emulating what I see in magazines because quite frankly I'm very happy at where I stand on the scale. Ultimately, I want to look good, but more imporantly, FEEL good. And besides, buried deep down underneath all the fame, money, and photoshopped glory these Hollywood robots are all miserable!! Why?? well, because....THEY'RE STARVING!!

For breakfast earlier this morning, I had some old fashion whole grain oatmeal, which is of course packed with fiber, but it's also a good source of protein, complex carbohydrates, and iron. It's great for those  people who are trying to control their weight because oatmeal absorbs ample amounts of water, which slows down your digestion making you feel full longer.

I don't even have to tell you that h2o is my BFF!

I also had some apples, which normally I prefer strawberries, raspberries, any sort of BERRY, but any fresh fruit is a-ok!

I had my oatmeal with 1% milk because I can't stand the taste of skim.

and lastly,

multi-vitamins!! I take the ones from Costco :)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful first week of 2010!

Peace&Love

  1. Andrea, I love your blog! I had to come and check it out one writer to another :) I think everything you said about dieting is so true and there is such a pressure to look a certain way. For me it is extremely hard because I am considered obese but I still wouldn't want to be anorexic either. I think the idea of taking care of ourselves and eating right is the way to go and something I haven't been doing for a long time. I don't eat junk food I just don't eat much of all at regualr meal times and there is no consistency. Anyway, don't want to turn this into all about me, but you have a good thing going here and I hope you keep it up. My blog address is on my facebook profile, I didn't know if you wanted me to pimp it here or not (nevermind it had me log in as my blog name):p Nans
